New judges appointed to Northern BC and the Cariboo
NORTHERN BC- Two new provincial court judges will be serving the north and Cariboo regions. The province has appointed Nina Purewal, QC, to sit in the north, while Scott Mulder will sit in Quesnel to serve as the sole judge.
Purewal will help facilitate the ongoing Northern Bail Pilot Project. Over the course of her legal career, she has worked for Pivot Legal Society/LLP, in the human rights field in Tanzania, as a Provincial government child and youth advocate as duty counsel, and as Crown counsel in the Smithers office. She holds a law degree from University of Victoria and a master’s degree in international human rights from Oxford University.
Meanwhile, Mulder will fill the role being vacated by the resident judge upon his retirement. He has 22 years of experience in family and criminal law throughout the north. This includes his time as counsel for the Nisga’a Lisims Government in child protection matters. He has also appeared on many Family Law Act matters and on criminal matters of all types and complexity.Originally from Kitimat, Mulder holds a law degree from the University of Victoria.
The new judges will be appointed on January 31.
