PRINCE GEORGE – Last year, the College of New Caledonia Students’ Union developed a program to help protect international students from scams and fraud.

Some international students are not aware of Canadian law or are afraid to report a crime, as they think it may affect their stay in the country.

The CNC Student union introduced a program late last year, so international students are fully aware of their rights while studying in Canada.

Sometimes, some students are frauded with taking a job and being told that they will not get paid until the weeks-long training period is over.

The student union is debunking the myth that reporting a crime can affect their stay in Canada.

The RCMP does encourage international students to reach out to them if they witness or become a victim of a crime.

CNC Student union can assist students if they are not familiar with reporting. CNC Students union would like to see their program grow into other educational institutions across the province.
