UNBC takes prestigious title for not-for-profit research growth
PRINCE GEORGE- UNBC has made it’s way into the latest Research Infosource Canada’s Top 50 Research University rankings. The school took first place in the research growth from not-for-profit sources category. Last year, UNBC saw its not-for-profit income increase nearly 95% to nearly $2 million, the largest increase of any university in the undergraduate tier.
Additionally, it took fifth place in the Research Universities of the Year category, becoming the only BC-based post secondary on the list. This ranking is calculated based on research income, research intensity, the number of publications, publication intensity and publication impact. UNBC did particularly well in the research intensity metrics, placing second in the undergraduate tier in research dollars per graduate student and third for research dollars per faculty member.
“By partnering with not-for-profit organizations, our researchers can bolster their funding while accessing expertise as they advance our understanding on important issues here in British Columbia and around the world,” says UNBC interim President Dr. Geoff Payne. “Research is an inherently collaborative endeavour. We are grateful for the many organizations who support the efforts of our world-class research teams.”
The school moved up a spot in the overall rankings to no. 41, trailing closely behind Brock University and Wilfred Laurier University. Meanwhile, the Royal Military College of Canada and Trent University followed.
