52.9% of British Columbians have received a third dose of vaccine

VICTORIA — The number of British Columbians with a third dose of vaccine continues to grow.

The province says 52.9 per cent of eligible adults have received their booster shot.

As of today, 90.2 per cent or eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 84.6 per cent have received their second dose.

In addition, 93 per cent of eligible people 12 and older have received their first dose and 90.3 per cent their second dose.

Also, 93.4 per cent of all eligible adults have received their first dose, and 90.8 per cent their second.

B.C. is reporting 3,287 new cases of the virus over the past three days:

Feb. 4-5: 1,326 cases

Feb.5-5: 1,118 cases

Feb.6-7: 843 cases

Active cases have dropped from 25,479 cases on Friday to 23,739 cases today. There are 987 people in hospital (+41), 141 of whom (+2) are in intensive care.

The province announced 499 new cases in Northern Health where there are 1,235 (+80) active cases.

Sadly 32 new deaths over the past 72 hours, for an overall total of 2,707.

The new deaths include:

* Fraser Health: nine

* Vancouver Coastal Health: 14

* Interior Health: three

* Northern Health: one

* Island Health: five
