PRINCE GEORGE – BC Premier John Horgan was on hand to announce a new economic plan for the province on Thursday guided by two main principles, clean and inclusive growth.

The plan is dubbed ‘StrongerBC: A Plan for Today, a Vision for Tomorrow’

“The plan is to ensure our economic success continues for the long term and will again have people at the centre of it so all British Columbians can benefit from our natural abundance, innovation, and our dynamic population,” said Horgan.

The plan offers many of the same ideas, and storylines past identified by the province including climate change actions, tackling issues around affordability, and innovation.

BC boasts one of the strongest economic recoveries since the pandemic began compared to the rest of the country, the amount of jobs available is actually so high many places in BC are experiencing a worker shortage.

The new plan sets out to fill one million jobs over the next 10 years by investing in skills training, building resilient communities and positioning B.C. as a world leader in a low-carbon economy.

As a first step in the plan, the Province is investing $136.6 million to build a new state-of-the-art Trades and Technology Complex at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) Burnaby campus. The complex will be a hub for skills training and include four new buildings, benefiting more than 12,000 full- and part-time students per year in more than 20 trades and technology programs.

Kevin Falcon, Leader of the Opposition criticized the plan by saying if someone had brought this onto his desk, he’d fire them on the spot.
