PRINCE GEORGE — The Kelowna Rockets returned serve against the Prince George Cougars Friday (Feb. 18) from the CN Centre.

After the Cougars beat the Rockets on the road 5-2 two days earlier, the Cougars fell 3-2 in the rematch.

The Cougars outshot the Rockets 11-3 in a scoreless first period.

“It’s somewhat frustrating not burying those chances early in the game, but it’s about how you’re creating and how you’re playing and that was a major positive tonight,” Mark Lamb, Cougars general manager and head coach says. “We created a lot but got behind the eight ball and just didn’t have enough to finish it.”

The Rockets scored late in the second and early in the third to take a 2-0 lead. The Cougars answered back early in the third when Koehn Ziemmer snuck a puck through Rockets goaltender Talyn Boyko from the right circle.

While the Rockets answered back and took a two-goal lead again, Riley Heidt got the Cats back within one with a dangle above the right circle and a move to the slot. However, the Cougars were unable to find the equalizer.

The Cougars fall to 19-26-2-1 on the 2021-22 Western Hockey League season with 41 points in 48 games. They’re sixth in the Western Conference and third in the B.C. Division.

The Cougars host the Rockets again at CN Centre Saturday (Feb. 19) at 7 p.m.
