PRINCE GEORGE—Canada’s green university is painting their colours white this summer, giving couples a chance to get their degree in love. For two days this year, UNBC will be offering pop-up wedding packages for six lucky couples.

“We starting looking into it, and we realized that maybe elopement packages, but wait a minute what are these ‘pop up weddings?'” said Deb Van Adrichem, Manager of Hospitality Services, UNBC.

Pop-up weddings aren’t a new concept. It serves as a cheaper, quicker, and less stressful way for lovers to say ‘I do.’

On July 16th and August 13th, those wanting to tye to knot can do so and get all the services they normally expect at a wedding. The school’s wedding package includes: ceremony, cocktail reception, a photographer, bridal preparations, a DJ, and decorated venue along with a government-approved marriage commissioner.

Each session will last three hours and can accompany up to 25 guests with prices starting at $5,790. More guests can be added for the event at an additional $40 each, up to a max of 50 guests total.

“You have more weddings in one day. Financially, less cost for that couple and reduce their stress. We include everything you might need for a wedding, in fact we’ve been planning this for almost a year ourselves, like a normal wedding would be.” said Van Adrichem.

Weddings aren’t new at the university. In the past, couples have gotten married that Van Adrichem organized herself. Along with the rest of the event coordinating staff, they have more than 50 years of combined experience.

“It’s a wonderful feeling knowing people spend such significant parts of their lives in these halls and can come experience one of their best days of their lives here as well.” said Van Adrichem.

If all goes well, she says that more love opportunities will happen. If you’re looking to kiss the bride or groom at UNBC, you can find more information on their website here.
