Feb 25, 2022 | 10:07 AM

PRINCE GEORGE — Local Mounties are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect in the theft of a catalytic converter.

Prince George RCMP say they received the report of the theft off a vehicle parked on the 700 block of Kinsmen Place shortly before 8 a.m. on February 8. However, RCMP believe the theft occurred sometime between 3:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. that morning.

Investigators from the RCMP’s Street Crew Unit reviewed video surveillance and have identified a possible suspect and a vehicle of interest.

Police are looking for a white male, approximately six feet tall, in his mid-to-late twenties. RCMP say he may be associated to a white, newer model Chevrolet Silverado with aftermarket wheels and rims.

If you recognize this man or this truck, police urge you to call (250)561-3300 to speak with police.

RCMP say these are some ways to help deter catalytic converter thefts:

  • Park in a secure garage or compound when possible. Otherwise, park in a well-lit and populated area.
  • Park so it is difficult to assess under your car, such as against a wall or closer to lower vehicles.
  • Install a product (such as a wire cage or alarm) designed to prevent catalytic converter theft.
  • Park vehicles left at businesses overnight in a locked, fenced area.
  • Install motion sensor lighting and good quality security cameras.

Police also ask that you consider registering your home or business surveillance system with the city’s CCTV registry. For more information click here.
