Shakirova gets Canada West All-Star nod

PRINCE GEORGE – While her team makes the trip to Calgary today ahead of their tilt tomorrow, one member of the Timberwolves was given some league recognition this morning.

It was a bounce-back year after tearing her ACL in 2019, and then last year’s league-wide hiatus due to the pandemic. But on Thursday, Alina Shakirova was announced as a Canada West 2nd Team All-Star.

The fourth-year guard averaged 18.5 points this season and led the Timberwolves in scoring, while also topping Canada West with the most free throws (92) made during the regular season.

Baby Shak, as she’s often referred to, was also second in Canada West for overall minutes played. Through 18 games played, she was good on 43.5 per cent of her shots.
