To Your Health: Dentophobia
When going to the dentist you may feel anxiety and nervousness. If that’s the case you might have Dentophobia. Dentophobia is a fear of visiting the dentist. Many patients do get slightly nervous when it comes to visiting, however when an extreme fear manifests itself and a huge feeling of dread occurs before every appointment and patients even tolerate pain in their mouth rather than going to see the dentist.
If that’s the case there are usually three triggers that set off someone when they arrive at the dentist to put them in a state of dread and fear: sense, smell, sound.
However, there are some coping mechanisms to help to go to the dentist and make it less scary than it needs to be. That includes listening to music, having aromatherapy, and of course talking to your dentist to help make the experience more enjoyable.
