PRINCE GEORGE — Update: BC Wildfire Service is also planning on burning grass on six plots at the Prince George Tree Improvement Station. Smoke may be visible southeast of College Heights and south of the city of Prince George.

Earlier: The BC Wildfire Service and Prince George Natural Resource District are planning on burning 40 piles of wood debris.

The project is expected to start Monday, March 21, 2022. The fires will be prepared, monitored and controlled by the BC Wildfire Service. Some smoke may be visible from Highway 97 and surrounding communities. The burns are done to help promote overall forest health and to reduce the risk of future forest fires.

The exact timing of the burns will depend on the weather, venting, site and snow conditions.
