World Women’s Curling Championships: Thursday Recap

PRINCE GEORGE — Canada’s Kerri Einarson drew closer to a playoff berth in the women’s world curling championship with a 9-3 win over the United States on Thursday.

The host country improved to 7-2, however, they later suffered their third loss of the tournament in their evening match against Korea. The Canadians went to extra ends against Korea, but lost 8-7.

Einarson and her team will now look ahead to Friday to secure their spot in the playoffs with matches against Germany and the Czech Republic.

The top six teams at the conclusion of the round robin Friday advance to playoffs with the top two seeds earning byes to Saturday’s semifinals.

Seeds third through six play off that day to join them in the semifinals. The medal games are Sunday.

Draw 15:

Canada defeated the United States, 9-3

Norway defeated the Czech Republic, 7-1

Switzerland defeated Denmark, 7-3

Germany defeated Turkey, 8-1

Draw 16:

Sweden defeated Germany, 6-5

Japan defeated Norway, 9-5

Switzerland defeated Korea, 8-5

Draw 17:

Turkey defeated the Czech Republic, 7-5

Korea defeated Canada, 8-7

United States defeated Sweden, 5-4

Denmark defeated Italy, 7-5
