BC Summer Games needs volunteers

PRINCE GEORGE – The BC Summer Games are right around the corner, and organizers gave Council an update. Everything is going along nicely but the pressure point is volunteers. They have signed up 500 but they need a lot more, every before the actual Games.

“Everything from working in food services, helping to clear the dishes and make sure to get these athletes in, fed and then out to their on to their buses and competing,” explains Renee McCloskey, President of the BC Summer Games Society. “We need people helping in the various parking lots. We need to make sure the parking is okay and know where to go.”

They need people to serve 32,000 meals over four days, put down and pick up 3,200 foam mattresses, there will need to be shuttle drivers to get athletes to and from their meets and, eventually, help in the presentation of 21-hundred medals.

There are 18 different sports from golf, to baseball, to basketball to soccer, volleyball and track. That’s just a few of the different sporting venues to be in use for the four days.

“It’d probably be shorter to say what venues we’re not using.”

So some of the dignitaries and tech crews will be arriving in advace, but what is unusual about these games is the athletes will be arriving en masse on July 20th.

If you are interesting in volunteering, there will be a sign up booth at the torch light-up tomorrow and you can always go to the BC Summer Games website.
