RCMP challenges kids to name newborn foals

Apr 17, 2022 | 12:41 PM

PRINCE GEORGE — Children across Canada are being asked to submit names for newly-born RCMP horses.

Children are asked to submit names for 12 new foals that were recently welcomed by the RCMP Breeding Farm in Pakenham, Ontario. The foals may one day be part of the “world famous Musical Ride” — a troop of 32 police officers and their horses who perform intricate formations and drills set to music.

Riding Master Sergeant Major Scott Williamson, says the contest helps kids get connected to the horses involved.

“This is a great opportunity for youth to be directly engaged in naming a horse that will very likely become an important part of the Musical Ride’s legacy and be a part of the RCMP family for many decades.”

The RCMP release states for the 2022 contest, names submitted must start with the letter V.

Submissions must be made by children under the age of 14. Names can also be submitted by a teacher on behalf of a classroom.

RCMP says to qualify, you must:

  • be 14 years of age or younger
  • submit a name that begins with the letter V
  • submit only one entry
  • live in Canada
  • enter by no later than April 22, 2022, at 11:59 pm EST – 8:59 p.m. PST (BC)

Contest winners will be announced between May and June. More information can be found on the RCMP website.
