PRINCE GEORGE—The Prince George Symphony Orchestra announced multiple upcoming shows this morning as well as a new youth orchestra directed by Roxi Dykstra.

The Prince George Symphony Youth Orchestra has been created in partnership with the PGSO and the Prince George Conservatory of Music to give youth in the Prince George area a chance to play in a strings band. The group will be directed by northern BC native Roxi Dykstra who is an accomplished musician herself, playing regularly in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

The spring program will run for 6 weeks starting April 25, culminating in a performance on June 12. The program is free to participate in and is open to all levels of players from beginner to advance. The PGSYO has confirmed funding through 2023 thanks to the BC Arts Council.

The Hummingbird and the Fire is a narrated, multimedia family concert that will mix storytelling with musical elements. The story is about a hummingbird that earns its colours trying to save its community from a fire one drop of water at a time. The show will have two practice performances at local schools before a public performance on Sunday, April 24, at 2 p.m.
