COVID-19 hospitalizations on the rise in latest update

VICTORIA—The province released its weekly COVID-19 update and is reporting another increase in covid positive patients in hospital.

Five hundred seventy people are currently in hospital with covid, an increase of 85 since last week’s report. Nine more people are also in intensive care compared to the previous week’s report. The week ending on April 23, say 2,276 new cases were confirmed and 42 new deaths.

While numbers across the province are on the rise the Northern Health Region has remained somewhat flat over the past week. Hospitalizations remain low with 24 people currently in hospital who tested positive. Five people are in critical care.

British Columbia administered 26,923 new covid tests with an average positive rate of just under four per cent. Over 11.6 million doses of various COVID-19 vaccines have been administered.
