PRINCE GEORGE – The latest numbers from the Foundation Skills Assessments (FSA) are in for students in School District 57 (SD57).

Students in Grades 4 and 7 take the assessment annually unless they choose to opt out, according to Superintendent of SD57 Cindy Heitman participation is an area Prince George and surrounding communities always excel.

Compared to other districts Heitman said Prince George is among some of the highest which represents a good and accurate picture of students and where their learning is at.

Grade 4 students in the district were near the provincial average for literacy scoring an average of 69% among all students, while numeracy testing results lay out a more concerning trend.

SD57 students scored an average of only 53% in numeracy, while most districts hover between 52%-68%. For Indigenous students, the average score was 40% lower than most school districts in the province.

Grade 7 students were slightly below average in literacy and in numeracy.
