PRINCE GEORGE – It was a record-breaking day for the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation at the Prestige Treasure Cove Hotel smashing all previous fundraising totals.

The 2022 edition of Spirit Day led to over $250,000 raised for healthcare in Northern BC, a large part of that from a ‘Dream Team’ of PG superstars who helped raise the most dollars ever raised in a single-hour in the history of the event.

“It was absolutely amazing to see everyone come together the way they did,” said Aimee Cassie, CEO of the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation. “I just can’t stop smiling, I can’t thank all of our staff, volunteers, and donors enough,” added Cassie.

Cam Thun, a local businessman and owner of several businesses in the city donated $25k himself to cancer care with Spirit of the North matching his donation and others to increase the total drastically.

Thun said nothing is more important to him and his family than giving back to a hospital that has been near and dear to his heart.

By mid-afternoon the tally was already over $175k smashing the previous record of just over $130k.

The dollars raised will go towards funding healthcare equipment, projects, and aid in recruiting valuable specialized staff for specialized services.

One of the big items that sparked the ‘Dream Team’ was a goal to fund the specialized freedom cancer couch, an item needed at the BC Cancer Centre for the North. The new equipment will help staff do precision radiation in Prince George so patients in Northern BC don’t have to travel south to get care.
