PRINCE GEORGE —Update: RCMP have provided more details regarding Wednesday’s police pursuit in Prince George.

Police say it all started just after 4 a.m. when RCMP received a report of a break-and-enter to a business on the 700-block of 4th Avenue.

Cpl. Jennifer Cooper says officers arrived at the business and were met by a burgundy coloured Dodge pickup truck pulling a flat deck trailer, leaving the area. She says efforts to stop the vehicle were attempted by officers but due to it driving erratically and at high rates of speed, it was not pursued.

A short time later, police received a report of another break-and-enter, this time to a business on the 1700-block of Queensway. Police determined the vehicle that had recently fled from them, had been stolen from this location earlier in the evening.

Police located the suspect truck, now without the trailer, shortly after 5 a.m., heading southbound on Old Summit Lake Road. Cooper says officers successfully deployed a spike belt on Northwood Pulpmill Road briefly disabling the vehicle. During this encounter with the suspects, the officer discharged their firearm. The suspect vehicle fled and continued to drive dangerously, colliding with a police vehicle.

The truck continued at a high rate of speed north on Old Summit Lake Road, turning southbound on the Hart Highway, then colliding with a second police vehicle near Lehman Street. Police officers successfully deployed a second spike belt but the vehicle failed to stop again.

Cooper says due to the reckless and dangerous manner the suspect vehicle was being driven, police stopped their pursuit of the vehicle. Investigators continued patrols for the vehicle and it was found a short time later in an alleyway between Burden and Alward streets.

With the assistance of a police service dog, two suspects were arrested and held for court.

RCMP ask anyone with dash cam footage or video surveillance to contact them at (250)561-3300.
