PRINCE GEORGE – With anywhere from eight to 12 trips a day, and over 1,100 students transported since 2011, the iconic Polar Green bus will be set to retire and run its final trip from Prince George Secondary School to the hockey rink this Fall.

The bus, which was generously donated to the school’s hockey program, is showing its age.

“It’s getting tired,” explained Renzo Berra, the founder of the PGSS Hockey Program and driver for the bus. “I’m filling it up will oil as much as I am gas these days, and it’s starting to show some of its ageing with some rust spots.”

When the program was first launched in 2002, a bus was a critical piece in ensuring instructors could get students to and from the rink every day. They’ve gone through two buses, both being donated, but will now receive a brand new bus for the first time thanks to a number of sponsors.

“The whole goal is for longevity of the program and we want it running for another 30 years. A new bus is going to hopefully be around for 20 or more years,” said Berra.

And it’s been confirmed, a non-negotiable, the new bus will be Polar Green. The current bus will be decommissioned in the fall when the new bus arrives.
