IIO investigating after youth hit by car following RCMP interaction

PRINCE GEORGE — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of B.C. is investigating an incident where a youth was hit by a car after interacting with RCMP in Prince George, according to a news release Sunday (May 15).

At around 10 p.m. on Saturday (May 14) Prince George RCMP officers were conducting patrols of the CN Fair Grounds and were flagged down by security staff who said a teenage boy had been involved in a fight.

The release says a youth in connection with the investigation was approached and told he was going to be detained.

The BC RCMP says the youth then fled on foot and was struck by a vehicle travelling southbound on Ospika Boulevard.

He was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. No additional information has been given about the youth.

“The IIO was notified shortly after the incident occurred and has commenced an investigation,” the IIO release reads.

No further information will be released by RCMP as IIO is handling the investigation going forward.
