PRINCE GEORGE—On Monday, Prince George RCMP caught two drivers who are suspected of driving while impaired.

At 7:55 p.m. a motorist was seen driving near 20 Avenue and Spruce Street where they proceeded to yell out their vehicle window at police officers. The officer then followed the driver into a parking lot. While speaking with the driver the officer noticed several signs of drug impairment.

The officer began an investigation into impaired operation of a motor vehicle. A Drug Recognition Expert conducted an evaluation of the driver, who was issued a 24-hour driver prohibition and had their vehicle impounded.

Approximately an hour later RCMP received a call from a concerned citizen about an erratic driver in a Chevrolet pickup. Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Officers believed the driver to be under the influence of drugs. Officers detained the driver and transported them to the Prince George City Detachment to be evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert. The driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and had their vehicle impounded.

“These investigations highlight the hard work our officers are doing to keep our streets safe. Impaired driver investigations are complex and require additional training. We appreciate having police officers who are eager take this training and put it to use in our community,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.
