CNC honours three graduating classes

PRINCE GEORGE- After years of zoom calls and teams meetings, students can gather in person and celebrate their achievements. This Saturday, those who graduated from the College of New Caledonia between 2020 and 2022 finally had the chance to hear their names called.

As school years wrap up around the province, different establishments are taking the chance to celebrate convocations in person.

” Well, this is a long-awaited day. We’ve not been able to do an in-person convocation for a couple of years, for obvious reasons,” says President of CNC Dennis Johnson. ” This afternoon, we look forward to 467 new grads for 2022. It’s a great day.”

CNC took the opportunity to celebrate three different classes Saturday. 2020, 2021, and 2022.

“This morning, we had a ceremony. We had about 400 previous graduates registered,” said Johnson. “We made a commitment in 2020, that first convocation during the pandemic that we would make an opportunity for students to walk across the stage.”

These events over the weekend were a gesture the entire student body appreciated, especially after everything the students had to go through to get to graduation.

“We know the pandemic had a really big effect on students,” says Savannah Ball, who graduated from CNC Saturday. “It’s really nice that CNC is honoured convocation for students who didn’t get to participate in the last couple of years.”

The Convocation took place at CN Centre Saturday, where graduates could have as many family and friends as they wanted.
