Conservative MP Pierre Poilievre proposes bill to ban COVID-19 vaccine mandates
PRINCE GEORGE– Conservative leadership contender Pierre Poilievre has proposed private members bill to the House of Commons which if passed would prevent the federal government from imposing vaccine mandates on federal workers and the traveling public. Fellow Conservative and Polievere backer Bob Zimmer has shown his full support for this in one of his latest tweets where he reads out the proposal.
Poilievre’s proposal is unlikely to pass due because it likely won’t have the support of the liberals and NDP. Chris Beach is a Political Science Instructor at the College of New Caledonia. and he finds the reason this private members bill was proposed was to gain voters in the conservative election race.
As for if it will hurt Pierre Poilievre in the long run, Beach says there are a couple of outcomes. One of them is an opponent bringing this up during the federal election campaign and presenting Poilievre as too far right. The other is Poilievre using it to his advantage and saying he can make decisions on controversial issues.
