PRINCE GEORGE — The City of Prince George was recognized this week with a national award for the way they communicate with residents on social media.

Announced on their now-award-winning Facebook page on Wednesday (June 8), the City won Best Canadian Digital Communications Campaign of the Year from the Canadian Public Relations Society.

The post said that the City changed their social media strategy last year.

“Last year we started communicating with you a little differently on social media. We took a more relatable tone to share important information with you,” read the post.

“On occasion we are even a little sassy. You responded with enthusiasm.”

Congratulations poured in via comments.

“They need to clone you and have you all over the province,” read one comment.

“I was just talking with a coworker about how much I love the new media approach. I’m so glad that you’ve pivoted to making it more approachable — it helps engagement and makes things easier to digest,” added another.

“I live in Quesnel and have had SO many laughs over your witty (yet informative) posts,” said another.

The post indicated the “neighbourly” tone will continue.

“We promise to never start a sentence with, “please be advised,” never joke about money, and always provide clear factual information in a timely manner.”
