Social Media a big tool for the City of Prince George in helping residents

PRINCE GEORGE– When someone says Prince George won an award, most people will think locally, some might think provincially but very few think NATIONALLY.

However, that’s exactly what happened on June 6th when the City of Prince George won the Best Canadian Digital Communications Campaign of the Year from the Canadian Public Relations Society. A massive award to the city, beating out other organizations that heavily fund their social media department.

The person behind it all? Julie Rodgers. When she got hired back in October she and her team made it their goal to change the script on how social media posts are made. Rather than being all official, they thought they would simplify it down to help residents better understand it. All while having a little fun in the process.

And so far the response has been great. Many people not only from PG but other cities in Northern BC have embraced their somewhat sassy and funny posts that also help inform residents of certain things going on in the city. Something that Rodgers absolutely loves to see. She says she will often go to social media to read the great comments and answer any questions when she needs a break from her day!

The award is expected to be delivered to the city next week, and they hope to keep on putting smiles on residents’ faces with new posts and creative ideas.
