Downtown Summerfest returns

PRINCE GEORGE – It’s back! But better! Summerfest started modestly with a single day of events for folks of all ages back in 2011. COVID put a damper on some of the festivities.

“As we started to come out of COVID, we realized we still couldn’t do ‘events.’ and we realized we had some things already happening downtown. We had the Farmers’ Markets. We also have some great businesses and some great restaurants. ”

And Downtown Prince George is doing it again this year, building on the success of last year, spreading Summerfest over the whole summer, with events happening over four Saturdays – July 9, July 16, August 13 and August 20.

This year, though, Downtown Prince George has a new partner in Sound Factory. It will have a stage set up in Wood Innovation Square where various different local musical talents every Saturday between 11 a.m. and three p.m.

“We’re going to do a couple of acoustics artists a day,” explains Aidyl Jago with Sound Factory. “And then a band in the afternoon.”

And each of the four Saturdays will have a theme, starting with the BMO Community Art Days this Saturday. July 16th is all about the food. And the final day, August 20th, is about the merchants.

“We’re actually going to close Fourth Avenue on that last Downtown Summerfest Saturday, August 20th, and invite some more merchants to come to the downtown.”

And other themes this year include indulging in your personal well-being and looking for that something special in some of the specialty shops.
