18-year-old Oczkowski growing into role as Kodiaks starting QB

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Kodiaks Football Club have themselves their very own Sunshine.

You’ll know exactly what I mean for those familiar with Disney’s Remember The Titans (2000).

Looks aside, 18-year-old Liam Oczkowski earned himself the starting quarterback for the Prince George Kodiaks, and he’s already established himself as an early star on the young team.

Through just one game, the sample size is small but the product of Calgary, AB has shown some early signs of promise. In the Kodiaks’ season opener in Chilliwack, the six-foot-six quarterback completed nine of his 19 passing attempts for 182 yards before being sidelined due to an injury in the third quarter. But he also showcased his ability to manoeuvre the pocket and tuck the ball when needed, picking up 20 yards on two carries in his team’s 31-5 loss to the Valley Huskers.

Oczkowski admits the speed of the game is much faster in the BC Football Conference but is confident in his abilities to adapt to the game and improve week after week.

The Kodiaks will welcome the Kamloops Broncos to Masich Place Stadium this Saturday for their home opener. Both teams are 0-1, but the Broncos have only won once in the past three seasons, and Coach Keon Raymond and the Kodiaks will look to capitalize as they search for their identity in the BCFC.

Gates open at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday at Masich Place Stadium and kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Season tickets and individual game tickets can still be purchased through TicketsNorth.

The Kodiaks Kickoff 50/50 will also be handed out on Saturday. The deadline to buy tickets is Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here. A guaranteed jackpot of $200,000 will be split between one lucky fan and the Kodiaks.
