ESS funding at odds
PRINCE GEORGE – The debate over how Prince George funds emergency management services is back in the spotlight, even as the city’s Emergency Operations Centre sits relatively quiet following a brief activation related to wildfire evacuations from the Cariboo.
The Emergency Operations Centre, located behind the Kin Centre, accommodated some evacuees earlier this week as wildfires continued to impact communities in the region. While the centre is no longer bustling with activity, the recent activation has renewed discussion about the role Prince George plays during emergencies and how much taxpayers should contribute to maintaining that capacity.
City Manager of Emergency Programs Tanya Spooner says Prince George has invested heavily in preparedness over the past several years, including securing specialized trailers designed to support emergency operations.
