PRINCE GEORGE — Outside of his mixed martial arts business in downtown Prince George, Karm Manhas wants proposals on a number of issues, including crime, turned into concrete action.

Manhas says that he brought up a number of proposals at a special city meeting four years and none of them were implemented or acted upon. He believes his proposals he is running one would solve many of the problems Prince George faces.

Food security and food democracy is part of Manhas’ platform, as he is worried about the food situation in Prince George, as well as rising costs when buying groceries. One solution that he would bring forward is allowing backyard and front yard farming, as well as building more greenhouses to provide more locally sourced food.

Dealing with crime is a priority for Manhas, and he blames that inaction in the last four years, has caused this issue. Manhas says that a housing situation in the city needs to be found immediately in order to help bring down crime.

“We need a major change … I speak for the people, speaking for the downtown community that is getting unbelievably harassed, so much so that several businesses are locking their doors during the day, and it is absolutely unacceptable that it has reached this point” – Karm Manhas

Reading from a survey he conducted with the homeless and business owners, Manhas says that people are being bussed into Prince George, and questions the actions taken by city council.

“Why isn’t city council bringing this up? How are we going to solve these problems when you don’t bring this kind of stuff up? … Business owners have cleaned up urine and feces for four years, everyone has had enough” – Karm Manhas
