Flair Air promotes Tucson flight

PRINCE GEORGE – Beginning on December 2nd, folks from Prince George can hop on a Flair Airlines 737 and head straight to Tucson, Arizona. And brass from the airline was in Prince George, reminding people of that fact.

“When you think about why Tucson, it’s not a household name like a Palm Springs or Phoenix necessarily,” says Eric Tanner, Flair Airlines Vice President of Network Planning. “But it has everything for everybody.”

Flair Airlines ran afoul of Canadian ownership regulations shortly after the Prince George– Tucson destination was announced. In a preliminary determination this past March, the Canadian Transport Agency found Flair may not be “controlled in fact” by Canadians – a violation of federal law – as Miami-based investor 777 Partners holds a “dominant” influence over the airline. However, after some restructuring, the airline did meet Canadian laws and Tucson was back. Welcome news to the Prince George Airport Authority.

“We’re always looking for air service development opportunities,” says Gordon Duke, CEO of the Prince George Airport Authority. “And reaching out to our airline partners regularly.” In fact, of all the airport authorities that Flair operates to and from, the folks at YXS are hoping to see something more come of the relationship. Promoting something people from Tucson would never experience unless they came to Prince George. And that’s winter.

“We’re excited to promote things like fat-tire biking, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowshoeing, a dog sled ride, and the Northern Lights,” says Duke. “Those are huge draws to folks and there’s an opportunity to start some buzz in that community about coming to Prince George for a week in the winter.”

As for what’s next for the Prince George Airport Authority? Well, the sky’s the limit.
