SMITHERS — The RCMP says a fire early this morning (Oct.26) in Smithers appears to be a targeted attack on emergency service vehicles.

The fire broke out just before 4:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Sunshine Inn located on the 3800 block of 4th Avenue.

“The fire did not cause any damage to the hotel, however eight vehicles, including four RCMP and one BC Ambulance were damaged or completely destroyed in the blaze,” says North District RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson.

“This appears to be a targeted attack on emergency service vehicles. Preliminary investigation indicates this is an arson and we are asking for the publics assistance in providing information so that the person, or persons involved may be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
