PRINCE GEORGE – The PGGS Polars Wrestling team and Prince George Wrestling Club are getting ready to take part in the Ice breaker Tournament held this Saturday which will see teams from all over Northern BC participating.

Kids of all ages were at the high school last night learning the techniques of wrestling and preparing for their first action of the season. Whether they’re in elementary or high school, they are always excited to learn the sport.

For coach Dennis Mccarthy he always grew up in a wrestling family. It’s what got him into teaching the sport which holds a special place in his heart.

“I grew up with a wrestling family. The sport was something my brothers and I could do without getting into trouble. It was the best thing for us growing up. So coming out and coaching these kids, it’s, a lot of fun.” – Dennis Mccarthy, PGSS & PG Wrestling Club Coach

Mccarthy is hoping for a big turnout this weekend. The event is completely free to watch all taking place at PGSS. He’s hoping he can grow the sport of wrestling even more in the City of PG.

“We’ve got some wrestlers coming from Prince Rupert, Smithers, Hazelton, Williams Lake, and Vanderhoof. We’re running the elementary tournaments from 9:00 to noon. Then the high school wrestlers are going to come in from noon to about three or four and finish off the day.” – Dennis Mccarthy, PGSS & PG Wrestling Club Coach

The Tournament will be held on Saturday, December 3rd, and will feature wrestlers from all over Northern BC.
