Prince George air travel passengers dealing effects with nationwide delays and cancellations

PRINCE GEORGE — With the Vancouver Airport dealing with long delays and flight cancellations due to bad weather, flights at the Prince George Airport (YXS) have also been affected by these delays and/or cancellations.

On a normal day at the Prince George Airport, WestJet would have five flights a day that leave Prince George, and Air Canada, 3. However, with the ongoing bad weather in Vancouver today, WestJet only had 2 flights leave today, one was delayed, due to one cancellation, with Air Canada having delays on all 3 flights.

Aliya Jackson says that she had trouble coming home to Prince George from Ontario earlier in the month. Her flight from Vancouver to Prince George was cancelled on a Sunday, and they could not get here on a flight until Tuesday.

Many remember the confusion and disarray that occurred this past summer in our nation’s airports, with delays and cancellations, becoming all too common. If you are getting onboard an aircraft this winter, you may still deal with delays and cancellations, as weather will be playing a big part in how you get from destination to destination this holiday season.

With fewer flights leaving Prince George, there are less options for passengers if their flight gets delayed or cancelled. Currently, both Air Canada and WestJet only fly Bombardier Dash 8-Q400 aircraft into YXS, meaning that there are less numbers of seats available on that particular aircraft, only 78, for the airline to sell. This is opposed to a Vancouver to Calgary route where there is more demand, the airlines may operate a Boeing 737 jet, which has a seat capacity ranging from 132 to 174 seats.

With winter weather unpredictable at the best of time, travellers should be prepared for the unexpected in the weeks ahead.
