BCEHS unable to proceed with patient transfers to Lower Mainland due to winter storm

Dec 23, 2022 | 4:21 PM

PRINCE GEORGE – The severe winter storm hitting BC’s coast has forced BC Emergency Health Services into pausing patient transfers until conditions improve.

In a statement to CKPG News, BCEHS said conditions are being monitored and transfers will continue when it is safe to do so.

“Freezing rain and/or severe turbulence and low ceilings/limited visibility have been forecasted and/or reported from the Lower Mainland up the coast to Prince Rupert, making it unsafe for any air transfers into or out of any coastal airports and helipads.”

There have been no reported issues out of Prince George as of Friday evening.

  • BCEHS and its air ambulance service providers have a well-defined process to assess safety, to protect patients and paramedics from unnecessary risk. Our pilots are constantly assessing weather to ensure that we can transport patients safely.
  • Conditions are not expected to improve until later today.
  • Weather will continue to be assessed for patient transfers to/from any coastal airports or helipads for any improvement in conditions.
