Calls mount for improvements to Highway 16

PRINCE GEORGE – Winter roads can be harsh, but the Mayor of McBride and the MLA for the region believe the drive between Prince George and the Robson Valley could be made a lot better.

Whether it’s signage, road design, upgrades, or simply a bigger maintenance budget Mayor Gene Runtz said he would like to see some action.

“It’s a rougher portion, especially the first half from McBride to Prince George,” said Runtz. “That’s where you’ve got all these bigger creeks and gullies coming in and you’ve got the problems with trucks on the roads…you can’t change the country, but there is areas out there that if they put in some more lanes or widen the lanes and places, that would always help.”

The 200-kilometre stretch may be one of BC’s most forgotten routes, tucked through the mountains on the edge of the province with patchy cellular service.
