PRINCE GEORGE – The numbers are out for who spent the most during the 2022 General Local Elections.

In Prince George, Mayoral Candidate Roy Stewart topped the spending list with over $46k in expenses over the designated election period. Simon Yu followed with over $31k in expenses, with Terri McConnachie rounding out the top three at over $26k spent to become Prince George’s mayor.

According to Chris Beach, Political Science Instructor at the College of New Caledonia it’s not what you spend necessarily, it’s how you spend it and how you campaign.

“It depends on the candidate,” said Beach. “For example. Simon spent roughly $5k more than Terri McConnachie and I think in his situation, it might have helped because in that week before the election, you saw Simon use signs popping up everywhere.”

Beach added when you see more signs and advertising you are likely to assume that person has strong supporters and is well organized.

In the 2018 General Local Election, incumbent-Mayor Lyn Hall spent under $7k in his successful campaign.
