Potholes re-emerge on city streets as freeze-thaw weather patterns wreak havoc on local infrastructure

Prince George city yard crews have busy round the clock with the clean up in the aftermath of last week’s major snowfall. During the day plow crews have been keeping main thoroughfares and priority routes through town clear and covered with traction material. As night falls, the fleet ops bust out their grader crews, front end loaders, and “the Yeti” a massive road-legal, snow-auger specifically designed to chew through dense snowpack and move metric tons of snow in a hurry.

The flip-flop weather we have been experiencing is taking a toll on more than just cars and people… the roadway itself is taking a major beating with temperatures in flux, and as water works it way through the porous surface, where it then freezes again and expands, taking chunks of the pavement with it.

The 311 app is like a city-wide dispatch system, connecting all the different public services in town with real-time incident reports from the public. you can access the app for free from the app store on your mobile device, and comes in two flavours: Android and iOS
