PRINCE GEORGE — B.C. is seeing record numbers of overdoses and toxic drug deaths, making it a dangerous environment for drug users, with the drugs themselves becoming more and more toxic.

B.C. is seeing record numbers of overdoses and toxic drug deaths, making it a dangerous environment for drug users, with the drugs themselves becoming more and more toxic. Northern Health has put out a number of toxic drugs alerts, warning the public of an increase in overdose events. There were two issued for Prince George in less than two weeks.

However, those who do not use illicit drugs, should still know the information surrounding the crisis. Illicit prescription drugs are right now the leading cause of drug overdoses and deaths throughout the province and Northern BC.

Benzodiazapenes are a class of drugs that are often used as sedatives and tranquilizers, and may be prescribed to someone with anxiety or insomnia.Having tools in place to prevent overdoses and deaths is crucial to the framework, but it is also vitally important that everyone is aware of what tools are available.
