PRINCE GEORGE – Some people find Shakespeare’s writing difficult because English was different then. A local high school theatre class has taken on the challenge of performing a play in old English.

Shakespearean speech is not a language that we use today. This Cedar Christian School senior drama class has embraced the old art of Shakespeare and brought it to the stage.

“ There wasn’t a lot of resistance, but there was a lot of uncertainty on the part of my students. And to be honest, I felt like I was really stretching to work to pull this off. Use the original language.”

Since the beginning of the school year, the senior drama class has met twice weekly to learn a different way of speaking.

Twelfth Night is a romantic comedy written around early 1600. It centres on twins who become separated during a shipwreck.

The play runs from the evenings of February 9 to the 11th at Lakewood Alliance Church. Tickets are available on the school’s website.
