PRINCE GEORGE – The Northern Capital draws people in from all over the world, thanks to the beauty of our pristine wilderness, abundance of well-paying jobs, and according to a recent survey conducted by independent Real Estate Giant ZOLO, the ability to get the more bang for your buck, than anywhere else in the province. With housing prices still low by comparison to the lower-mainland and larger cities to the south, but wages at a comparable level, Councillor Garth Frizzell says it comes as no surprise to see Prince George emerge as a hot new destination to seek out the Canadian Dream.

The stats on housing costs and household income, sourced from an average of Statistics Canada Census data from 2016 & 2021, would seem to paint a picture of local affordability far beyond anything even remotely attainable for cities in the south. According to the data averaged by ZOLO, by the numbers, Prince George is comfortably the most affordable city of any size in British Columbia, by a significant margin… But with some of the highest costs of living and tax rates anywhere in the country, and our proximity to ultra-affordable Edmonton, Alberta, some PG locals have questions about what “affordability” even means in a city like Prince George.

Rounding off the top 3 most affordable cities in BC are two other Northern municipalities: Fort St. John ranks in at #2, and Terrace at #3. All together cementing the reputation of Northern BC as a bastion of affordability in a time when Canadians from coast, to coast, to coast, have been feeling the pinch of ballooning inflation.
