PRINCE GEORGE — The newest production at Theatre Northwest will take to the stage next week.

“The Shoplifters” was created by Morris Panych, and the main character is Alma, a career shoplifter who prefers the “five-finger discount” over any senior citizen’s deal. When a grocery store theft goes awry, Alma’s elaborate life of petty crime is halted by an overzealous security guard and his affable mentor.

Erla Taylor who plays Alma says that this is her first production with Theatre Northwest.

“This is my first time at Theatre Northwest, and I’m really enjoying the community and how everybody works together. And this cast is wonderful too. So I think we’re going to have a really good time.” – Erla Taylor

Bradley Charles, the assistant director for the production says that “The Shoplifters” touches on particular issues, some of which affect Prince George.

“This is something that jumped out as something Prince George would would really respond to. You know, we have grocery stores closing and moving. We have a lot of people in Prince George who struggle to make ends meet. And this play talks about those issues, but in a way that is accessible and is easy to get into because it’s fun and it’s funny.” – Bradley Charles

Tickets are on sale now theatrenorthwest.com, and the shoplifters runs form February 16th to March 8th.
