PGDTA pens letter to SD57 board chair after alleged anti-SOGI comments

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George District Teachers Association (PGDTA) has penned a letter to Rachael Weber, Chair of the SD57 Board of Education.

This comes after a fiery exchange between Weber and Daryl Beauregard at the January 31 regular board meeting. Beauregard called on the board to take action against an alleged anti-SOGI speech, and made comments about the opening prayer started by Weber.

Weber responded to the input by telling Beauregard to “get [his] facts straight”.

The letter is a follow-up to that exchange which also saw Beauregard told he could not respond to the comments by Weber.

“Any insinuation by a member of the public that teaching SOGI, a set of Ministry approved resources is ‘grooming’, undermines the professionalism of the educators we have in our district,” said Beauregard in the letter.

“The assertion by the attendee of the Board meeting that, “student-teacher abuse cases are up, the number of children having psychological issues is up, and the amount of children who are confused about their gender is up” is inflammatory and offensive.”
