PRINCE GEORGE – The February 1st BC River forecast centre snow survey is now complete. According to the latest bulletin, all snow measurements across the province are 21% below normal, a fraction lower than January 1st.

These measurements give scientists a complete picture of the amount of water stored in the ground as we move into spring.

A combination of snowpack, warm weather and rainfall can mean an elevated risk for freshet-related flooding.

By understanding the amount of snowpack in the alpine and keeping a close eye on the weather patterns, provincial scientists have a better chance of forecasting the seasonal flood risks.
