Bobcats use big fourth quarter to down visiting UNBC Timberwolves

BRANDON — It’s the final weekend of the Canada West Basketball season, as some teams lick their wounds and other prepare for the playoffs.

On Friday night, the Timberwolves ran into a hot Brandon Bobcats team that had won two in a row. The game remained close through the first quarter with the visiting Timberwolves up 22-21. Brandon would respond in turn in the second stanza to take a six point lead into the break.

The see-saw battle would continue in the third with UNBC chipping away at the Brandon lead and making it a 1-point contest heading into the final quarter.

The fourth would see the contest end with a 22-14 run from the home side to close out the Timberwolves 93-84.

UNBC was lead by Fareed Shittu with a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double. Micah Jesse added in 19 for the ‘Wolves.

In the Women’s contest the Bobcats were able to pull off the upset to win their first game of the season Friday night.

Brandon was able to stick with the seven-win UNBC throughout the contest pulling out a 82-79 win in front of their home fans.

UNBC was lead by Alina Shakirova with 23 points. Sveta Boykova added a double-double with 18 points and 14 boards in the losing effort.

Both teams will conclude their regular season slate on Saturday.
