Artemis Gold orders construction fleet for Blackwater Project, still awaiting permits

PRINCE GEORGE – Provincial permits have still not arrived for Artemis Gold to begin work on the Blackwater Mine project southwest of Prince George, although the company has officially ordered their heavy equipment.

The new mine is expected to become one of the largest gold mines in Canada once expanded, set to create loads of economic activity for BC’s Central Interior.

“What I’m most excited about is to to bring this project to life,” said Steven Dean, Chairman and CEO of Artemis Gold. “Regionally whether you’re in Burns Lake, Vanderhoof, Prince George, or Quesnel the whole region has been waiting for something to happen and I’m so glad to be part of making that happen.”

Dean said this mine provides a generational opportunity for our region but also for First Nations who are heavily involved with the project in several agreements, and in the form of employment.

The initial construction fleet from Finning is expected to be delivered in mid-2023 and will be composed of a variety of mining support equipment, including excavators, backhoe loaders, compactors, graders, telehandlers, as well as fuel and water trucks, and will be further expanded throughout the construction period.

This phase of the project the most expensive with over $645 million needed for the initial development and 15-18 months expected of pre-production mining.

Kevin Moutray, Mayor of Vanderhoof said this project finally coming to fruition is good for everyone, and his focus is on trying to make sure some of the workers settle in the District of Vanderhoof while the mine is in operation.

The total revenue during the project’s life is expected to exceed $2 billion.
