PRINCE GEORGE- The UNBC Women’s basketball season has come to an end.

While the season didn’t end the way the team would have liked, losing to the nationally ranked UFV Cascades in the Canada West playoffs, the team is still proud of the effort they left on the court.

“If you’re going to end a season in a loss, make it like a good loss,” said Jenna Korolek, a guard for the UNBC Timberwolves. “We played really well against UFV and we tried our hardest.”

After an 0-5 start, the women got major wins against the Calgary Dinos and the Winnipeg Wesmen. The Timberwolves finished the season with a record of 8-13.

Alina Shakirova is one of the three seniors who will not be returning to UNBC next season.

Her ability to lead off the court was complemented by her strong play on the court. The guard led the team in minutes and points season, also becoming just the 4th Women in UNBC History to score over 1100 points in her career, cementing her legacy as one of the greatest athletes to ever dawn a UNBC Uniform.

“It was one of the greatest experiences I could have in my life,” said Shakirova when asked about her UNBC Career.

Along with Shakirova, Jenna Korolek and Oliva Wilson also played their last seasons with UNBC.
