PRINCE GEORGE — Winter has been a weird one this year in Prince George and with all the snow and cold temperatures, it may be hard to keep active. We find out how you can stay active in the winter, in this week’s to your health.

Winter is sticking around longer than we might like this winter, it may be hard for some to keep active due to all the snow, ice and cold temperatures. Despite that, you can still stay active by heading outdoors. If you don’t want to head outdoors, there are still options for you, like heading to the CN Centre and going for a walk or going to the pool for a swim.

The YMCA here in Prince George provides a wide variety of programs, activities and facilities to help you keep active.

“Our group fitness program is very robust with a lot of variety to the types of classes that we provide. So strength, stretching and yoga as well as cardiovascular type exercise, boot camps and bike classes and those kinds of things.” – Shannon Johnson, Centre Manager, YMCA Prince George

Training in the winter can help you if you take part in summer sports and activities.

“It’s a good time to be building those posterior muscles so that they endure through a long run and build up some strength in maybe some areas that are prone to injury, like knees and hips and things like that. Really working on muscle balance.” – Shannon Johnson, Centre Manager, YMCA Prince George
