Expert – Be careful when removing snow off your roof

PRINCE GEORGE – The snow we received over the past few weeks may have inspired some to grab a shovel, climb to the roof, and remove snow. All because they may be concerned that the snow is causing damage.

But getting on the roof can be dangerous at the best of times.

With the added snow and ice, experts say it is better to rely on specialized tools and stay on the ground to remove the accumulated snow.

Some snow removable devices allow you to remove most snow accumulations from your roof without leaving the ground.

“If somebody hits their shingle with a shovel, they can tear it really easily. And then you’re adding to your problems. So if you are shovelling, make sure you just leave like a good six-inch skiff, or a little bit more if you want to. But don’t hit your shingles with your shovel.”
