PRINCE GEORGE — After years of research and data collection, a research project has outlined the potential for mineral exploration and investment for our region.

There are some new promising developments in the natural resources sector in our region, and after a multi-year project conducted by Geoscience BC on surficial exploration, the results are showing the potential for mineral exploration and investment in North Central B.C. The official title of this project is the Central Interior Copper-Gold Research Project and the program is designed to highlight potential mineral deposits buried under glacial deposits in order to focus mineral exploration, attract investment and assist more informed natural resource decisions.

Data that has previously been recorded, was reanalyzed by Geoscience BC using updated and more modern technology.

The information and data that has been recorded and published by Geoscience BC will give those in the mineral exploration industry a better idea of where they can best utilize their resources, but there is still a long process before a mine is even considered or planned.

The specific area that the project focused on was between the Gibraltar, Mount Polley and Mount Milligan mines, which is a 9000 square kilometer area around Fort St. James, Mackenzie, Prince George, Quesnel, Vanderhoof and Williams lake. The resources that are below the earth in this area like copper and gold, are in high demand right now.

Richard Truman says that the role of Prince George and Northern B.C. will be a vital role in the future of mineral exploration and investment and the new data as a part of this research highlights the potential that this region has in natural resource management for years to come.
